Parties can make theirs public, if they wish

OTTAWA – The chair of the Broadcast and Telecom Legislative Review panel has disputed Cartt.ca’s report that it was ISED Minister Navdeep Bains’ decision to hold back on publicly releasing the reportedly over 2,000 submissions to the expert panel reviewing Canada’s Broadcasting, Telecom and Radiocommunication Acts.

She told Cartt.ca this morning that it was the panel’s decision alone.

“Any suggestion of ministerial direction concerning the release of written submissions made to the Panel is flatly incorrect,” she said in an emailed statement.

“All submissions will be published along with the Panel's ‘What We’ve Heard Report’ to be released no later than June 30th. That decision was taken by the panel alone as is to be expected of an independent, arms-length panel.

“Interested parties are free to make their submissions public,” she added in the statement.
