All the hot topics at the Canadian Telecom Summit

TORONTO – Covering all segments of the Canadian telecommunications and IT industry, The Canadian Telecom Summit brings together the leaders of all industry sectors – service providers, manufacturers, applications providers, policy makers and regulators.

With two major pronouncements from different government bodies regarding the state of competitiveness of Canada’s telecommunications industry – the Telecom Policy Report and the CRTC’s local forbearance decision, which in some clauses appear to contradict each other – it will be very interesting to see how the new Minister of Industry, Maxime Bernier, juggles the interests of all industry players, consumers and the business sector.

He is to give a keynote speech.

Those in attendance at the 2006 Canadian Telecom Summit will also get to hear CRTC chair Charles Dalfen, too.

This year’s Summit also looks beyond traditional telecommunications players and markets with prominent participation of IBM (Dan Fortin, President of IBM Canada), HP (Sebastiano Tevarotto, SVP of HP) and Microsoft (Gurdeep Singh Pall, corporate VP of Microsoft).

Delegates will hear from other key chief executives such as Hubert de Pesquidoux (Alcatel – and who will certainly speak about the coming Lucent integration), Terry Matthews (Mitel), Michael Sabia (BCE), Darren Entwistle (TELUS), Bill Linton (Rogers), Donald Peterson (Avaya), Andreas Bernhardt (Siemens), Mack Treece (Equant), Dion Joannou (Nortel), John MacDonald (Allstream), Jeffrey Citron (Vonage) and others.

A special cocktail reception on June 12, sponsored by AT&T, will follow a keynote address by AT&T’s Chris Rooney. And for the evening of June 13, delegates can attend a Blue Jays game courtesy of Rogers Communications.
