ST. JOHN’S – License this month. Launch next month.
Eastern telco Aliant today announced the launch of Aliant TV in St. John’s, NL. The IP-delivered digital TV option features over 150 video channels and 70 audio and will be available to customers in selected areas of St. John’s, Mount Pearl and Paradise – who can sign up now with installs to begin in late June and continuing throughout the year.
Aliant has offered terrestrial digital TV in parts of Halifax for almost a year and this is the first move outside Nova Scotia. As reported by cartt.ca last week, Aliant now has a regional cable license for the populous parts of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and St. John’s.
"Aliant is pleased to offer our 100% digital television service to our Aliant High Speed Value Package customers," said Heather Tulk, vice-president, residential markets, Aliant. "With more channels and features than cable TV’s complete analog package – combining phone, cell, Internet and television on one bill from Aliant is a convenient and cost-effective choice for our customers."
Rogers, the cable operator in St. John’s, offers digital TV, high speed Internet to its 50,000 customers in the market. The company doesn’t offer its Home Phone local telephony option in the market as yet (but we bet that gets accelerated now) and also offers Rogers Wireless, of course.
"Since Aliant TV launched last year, Aliant has received positive customer feedback about the new digital television service. Feedback indicates that many customers are satisfied with Aliant TV and are very likely to recommend the service to others," says the press release.
Aliant has yet to make public its number of TV subscribers.
Aliant’s TV packages start at $29 per month.
