Aliant launches PC purchase program

SAINT JOHN – Eastern telco Aliant is offering its customers a chance to buy a personal computer through the company.

Its new PC purchase program is a unique offer that will allow more Atlantic Canadians to get online. The program combines Aliant’s high speed Internet with a new home computer system, beginning at $54.95 a month (based on a three-year contract).

The company did not disclose which brand of computer it would be selling.

"Our research tells us that approximately 37% of Atlantic Canadians don’t have a computer or online access at home – this value-packed program will give them both all on their Aliant bill – helping make this region one of the most connected in Canada," Joe Mosher, director, Internet service provider, Aliant.

For the monthly fee, customers will receive Aliant High-Speed and a high-performance PC system which they will keep at the end of the contract. The online-ready computer system comes complete with 256 MB RAM, a 40 GB hard drive and 2.4 GHz processor speed, in addition to a keyboard, CD-RW drive, speakers, 17-inch monitor, mouse and a limited warranty.

Customers who sign up for the program with Aliant High-Speed will be able to access a number of enhanced features and services through www.aliant.net like online piano lessons, news-on-demand, downloadable and streaming music files, video gaming, and online shopping and bill payment.

"The program is part of Aliant’s commitment to be our customers’ first choice for all their information, communications and entertainment needs," adds Mosher.

Aliant is under pressure in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island from EastLink, which has been very successfully offering a bundle of voice, video, Internet and Rogers Wireless for some time, dramatically eating into Aliant’s local phone and high speed Internet market.

"Additionally, as part of Aliant’s ongoing commitment to children and education, for every PC Purchase Program sale we will make a $10 donation to provide school supplies for kids in need. The Aliant Pioneer Volunteers will work with schools across Atlantic Canada to ensure kids have a positive start to the school year."
