HALIFAX – On Wednesday, Aliant announced the provincial winners of its Garage Band contest, which is aimed at young Atlantic Canadians who are active in making music with their friends, family and hopefully not annoying their neighbours too much.
The regional winners are Kristina Trites, Nova Scotia; Tyler Lombard, New Brunswick; The Chucky Danger Band, Prince Edward Island; and Rayfield, Newfoundland.
Each of the winners will play the opening set in their province for the popular reggae/rock band Bedouin Soundclash’s concert, which will perform in Halifax, Moncton, Charlottetown, and St. John’s from November 30 to December 3.
"We had more than 100 amateur bands throughout Atlantic Canada submit their audio or video demos online at Aliant’s youth portal," said Deanna Miller, manager, Aliant youth marketing, in a press release. "Aliant wants to demonstrate that we’re listening to youth and focusing on what’s relevant to them. We believe the Garage Band contest is a great way to accomplish that while thanking them for their continued support of our youth-focused products and services."

Throughout December, visitors also will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite Aliant Garage Band. All voters will automatically be entered into a draw to win one of ten prize packs from Aliant and other music and fashion partners. The winning band or artist will receive the grand prize of a spot on the 2006 Vans Warped Tour.
Vans Warped Tour is a popular touring music and extreme sports festival, with a reputation for featuring up and coming artists. Bands such as blink-182, Limp Bizkit, and No Doubt all took part in the tour before making it big. Tour stops on the Canadian leg for 2005 included Vancouver, Calgary, Barrie (ON), Montreal and Quebec City.
The Aliant Garage Band contest officially launched in October and called for submissions from all amateur bands whose members are aged 25 or under. All submissions were reviewed by a regional panel of judges comprised of music industry professionals, including promoters and A&R label reps.
