ACTRA members agree to one-year extension of national commercial agreement

TORONTO — Canadian performers who are members of ACTRA have voted (96.56%) in favour of extending the National Commercial Agreement (NCA) for a one-year period, ACTRA announced today. The overwhelming majority (98.63%) also agreed to extend the NCA Local and Regional (L&R) Addendum for one year.

The NCA establishes the terms and conditions for on- and off-camera performers engaged in English-language commercial production in Canada. The agreement reached between ACTRA and the Joint Broadcasting Committee of the Association of Canadian Advertisers (ACA) and the Institute of Communication Agencies (ICA) is to extend the terms and conditions of the current NCA and the NCA L&R Addendum for a one-year term from July 1, 2020, to June 30, 2021.

“I greatly appreciate the support of our membership who voted in favour of extending the National Commercial Agreement for a one-year period,” said ACTRA national president David Sparrow, in the news release. “Thanks to everyone who participated in the vote.”

“Due to the impact Covid-19 has had on our production industry, this is a challenging time for everyone,” added Marie Kelly, ACTRA national executive director. “Extending the National Commercial Agreement for one year will give us an opportunity to return to the bargaining table soon and negotiate terms that will recognize the hard work and commitment of our ACTRA members.”

ACTRA (the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists) is the national union of professional performers working in English-language recorded media in Canada. ACTRA represents the interests of more than 27,000 members across the country.
