ESTEVAN, Sask. — Saskatchewan community-owned Access Communications Co-operative announced today its acquisition of KRAKR Enterprises Inc., a rural wireless Internet provider based in Estevan, Sask.
KRAKR Enterprises serves customers in southeast and southwest Saskatchewan. The acquisition will add 70 new towers to Access Communications’s rural wireless network, “bringing the total coverage area to over 200,000 square kilometres in Saskatchewan,” according to a press release.
“Access has an important role to play in bridging the rural-urban digital divide,” said Jim Deane, CEO of Access Communications, in the release. “This deal will position Access to better serve the underserved areas of our province and expand our rural wireless footprint, all backed by our exceptional customer service and community investment.”
The deal will not only preserve existing jobs “but increase the Estevan workforce over the next few months — with additional growth potential for Access Communications’s rural wireless operations in southern Saskatchewan,” the press release says.
“Access’s commitment to community was a key factor in this decision,” said Brandon Rosengren, CEO of KRAKR Enterprises. “Our goal from day one was to deliver leading-edge technology to rural Saskatchewan, to improve the quality of life. And that’s what Access is all about — giving back to the communities they serve.”
With the acquisition, Access Communications will soon offer AccessRural Internet services to the areas surrounding Avonlea, Carlyle, Estevan, Frontier, Gull Lake, Shaunavon, Swift Current, Weyburn, and more, the release says.
