A million PVR homes in Canada

TORONTO – The number of personal video recorders in Canada rocketed up by about 43% since the fall of 2006 says research company Solutions Research Group.

Advance results from its second quarter Fast Forward 2007 syndicated research shows that just over one million Canadian households now have a PVR in the home, up from about 700,000 in the fall of 2006.

As well, Canadians living in PVR households tend to be:

* More affluent, with an average household income of over $75,000 (23% above the Canadian average)
* More likely to consist of families (3.1 persons per household)
* 36% more likely to have a male or female adult in the home with a university education or a post-graduate degree;
* Slightly younger with 39 as the average age for an adult male or female.

Just over 60% of the PVRs in Canadian homes are regular definition units, with HD-PVR combinations accounting for the balance, according to the release.

Despite the growth in Canadian PVR household numbers since the Fall of 2006, Canada continues to lag well behind the U.S. where there are proportionally more than twice as many households with a TiVo or DVR in that market.

Fast Forward is Solutions Research Group’s ongoing independent trend research study that provides insight into the forces shaping the Canadian consumer landscape.
