CBC announced Tuesday the seventh season of The New Wave of Standup will launch Aug. 7 on CBC Gem.
Filmed earlier this year at Guilt & Co in Gastown, Vancouver, as part of the Just For Laughs Vancouver Festival, Season 7 of The New Wave of Standup (14 episodes x 10 minutes) features a new lineup of emerging Canadian comedians, including Abbas Wahab, Alasdair Tremblay-Birchall, Andrew Packer, Anjelica Scannura, Bita Joudaki, Cass Furman, Dustin Searcy, Emmanuel Lomuro, Hannah Veldhoen, Mark Thomson, Niki Mohrdar, Sam Burns, Savannah Erasmus, and Viza.
“Season after season, The New Wave of Standup has become an essential showcase for the next generation of Canadian comedians,” Sylvain Parent-Bédard, president and CEO of Just For Laughs and executive producer of The New Wave of Standup, said in a Tuesday press release. “Through our continued collaboration with CBC and Just For Laughs Vancouver, we’re proud to give these exceptional performers a national platform to connect with audiences across the country and celebrate the remarkable depth and diversity of Canada’s comedy scene.”
“This series continues to champion the brightest emerging talent in Canadian comedy. What began as a platform for rising comedians has grown into an anticipated annual series, and this year’s edition is poised to remain a fan favourite,” said Heather Wallace, co-founder and festival director of Just For Laughs Vancouver and executive producer of The New Wave of Standup.
In addition to Parent-Bédard and Wallace, other executive producers of Season 7 of The New Wave of Standup include Nick Brazao, vice president of talent and programming at Just For Laughs, and Spencer Griffin, former executive producer and vice president of television and creative strategy at Just For Laughs. Trish Neufeld serves as director.
