Cogeco teams with Assurant to launch digital-first mobile device solution

A year after launching a bring-your-own-device mobile service — which uses the mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) regime to operate — Cogeco announced last week a strategic collaboration with Assurant Inc. to provide a digital-first mobile device solution for its Canadian customers.

Leveraging Assurant’s device ecosystem and retail relationships, the partnership gives Cogeco Mobile customers exclusive access to a curated selection of network-compatible devices, including new, refurbished and certified Open Box models from Best Buy Canada via BestBuy.ca.

In addition to device access, Cogeco Mobile customers can take advantage of flexible financing options, device protection and trade-in capabilities, Cogeco said.

“Assurant provides the device lifecycle management capabilities that enable customers to buy, protect and trade in their devices, while Cogeco delivers connectivity and an integrated customer experience,” reads a press release last Thursday. “The solution addresses growing market demand in Canada for affordability, simplicity and sustainability throughout the mobile device lifecycle.”

“As Cogeco expands its mobility offering, our goal remains to provide customers with flexibility, value and peace of mind,” Nancy Audette, chief growth officer at Cogeco, said in the press release. “By integrating Assurant’s device ecosystem with Best Buy Canada’s trusted device availability directly into the Cogeco experience, we are simplifying the entire customer journey. This strategic partnership strengthens our competitive position in the wireless market and it ensures convenience, choice, and superior value for our customers.”

Cogeco Mobile is available exclusively to Cogeco Internet customers. Last October, Cogeco expanded its mobile footprint to serve most of its internet customers on the Cogeco network in Ontario and Quebec.
