Crave original series ‘Yaga’ picked up by Sky for UK and Ireland

Bell Media’s Crave announced Wednesday its previously announced half-hour drama series Yaga has been acquired by Sky for the United Kingdom and Ireland through a deal secured by Sphere Abacus.

The announcement comes as Sky showcases the Crave original series as part of its “Up Next” presentation in London on Wednesday. Additional territory announcements are expected to follow in the coming weeks, Bell Media said in a press release.

Based on a play by Canadian playwright Kat Sandler, who also serves as writer and showrunner, Yaga reimagines the Slavic myth of Baba Yaga as a contemporary mystery thriller set in a small coastal town.

Produced by Front Street Pictures and Blink49 Studios in partnership with Crave, the eight-episode series stars Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix), Noah Reid (Schitt’s Creek), Clark Backo (Letterkenny) and Hudson Williams (Heated Rivalry). Co-directed by David Frazee and Rachel Talalay, Yaga is executive produced by Mackenzie Donaldson, Andrew Miller and Carrie-Anne Moss, and produced by Charles Cooper.

Production of the series started earlier this year. Crave has not yet announced an expected premiere date.

The news follows the success of Crave’s Heated Rivalry, which sold to HBO Max and has become a global hit.
