Bell Media announced Tuesday the Crave original documentary travel series Hockey Fanatics, hosted by Kids in the Hall alum Dave Foley, launches Feb. 6, with all eight episodes available to stream on Crave.
Spotlighting beloved NHL teams and the devoted fans who champion them, Hockey Fanatics follows Foley and special celebrity guests as they travel across North America to explore the passion and culture of hockey fandom.
“From creator, showrunner, and director, Alex Scrymgeour, each episode of Hockey Fanatics takes viewers to a different North American city to explore the fandom around its home team,” says a Bell Media press release. “At every stop, Foley meets up with devoted superfans to chat about what their team means to them; tour the massive collections of memorabilia — even some that homes had to be built around; and learn about the impact the teams make in their communities.
“Along the way, Foley sits down for a meal with celebrity hockey fans to talk about their love and connection to their team before attending a game together,” the release says.
The NHL teams and celebrity guests featured in Hockey Fanatics include:
- Nashville Predators with country music star Wynonna Judd and her music producer husband, Cactus Moser
- Utah Mammoth with actor Scott Wolf (Party of Five)
- Vancouver Canucks with Canadian actor, director and producer Jason Priestley (Beverly Hills 90210)
- St. Louis Blues with Golden Globe-winning actor Scott Bakula (Quantum Leap)
- Toronto Maple Leafs with Canadian comedy icon Mike Myers (Shrek franchise)
- Montréal Canadiens with Canadian actor and author Jay Baruchel, who wrote Born Into It: A Fan’s Life on being a Habs fan
- Florida Panthers with actor, musician and author Nico Tortorella (Younger)
- Los Angeles Kings with Canadian actress and content creator Shenae Grimes-Beech (Degrassi: The Next Generation)
The series also features appearances from past and present NHL players, including Wendel Clark, Terry Crisp, Josh Doan, Sean Durzi, Jim Fox, Mark Fraser, Barret Jackman, Michael Kesselring, Mark Recchi, Luc Robitaille, Stan Smyl and Peter Worrell.
Hockey Fanatics is produced by Scrimmy Media and Shadow Pine Studios in association with Crave. For Scrimmy Media, Alex Scrymgeour is writer, director, showrunner and executive producer.
