Ahead of its Canadian linear broadcast premiere on Corus Entertainment’s W Network on Feb. 12, the full season of Peacock’s new mystery comedy series, The ʼBurbs, will be available to stream Sunday, Feb. 8 on StackTV.
Inspired by the 1989 horror-comedy movie of the same name, this eight-episode series is set in present-day suburbia and stars Emmy Award winner Keke Palmer (Password, Nope) and Jack Whitehall (Jungle Cruise) as a young couple who have reluctantly relocated to the husband’s childhood home.
“Their world is upended when a new neighbour moves in across the street, bringing old secrets of the cul-de-sac to light, and new deadly threats shatter the illusion of their quiet little neighbourhood,” says a series description in a Corus press release.
The ʼBurbs also stars Julia Duffy (Palm Royale), Paula Pell (Girls5eva), Mark Proksch (What We Do in the Shadows) and Kapil Talwalkar (Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist).
Distributed by Peacock in the U.S., the series is produced by Fuzzy Door Productions, Imagine Entertainment and Universal Content Productions, a division of Universal Studio Group. Celeste Hughey serves as creator, writer and executive producer of the series, and Rachel Shukert is writer and executive producer. Keke Palmer also serves as executive producer, along with Fuzzy Door’s Seth MacFarlane, Erica Huggins and Aimee Carlson, Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer, Kristen Zolner and Natalie Berkus, and Nzingha Stewart, who also directs.
Starting Feb. 12 at 9 p.m. ET/PT, W Network will roll out two episodes of The ʼBurbs for the first two weeks, followed by one episode weekly.
Corus also announced Season 2 of Seth MacFarlane’s hit comedy prequel series Ted will premiere March 5 on Showcase and StackTV.
“It’s 1994, and senior year of high school is underway for Ted (Seth MacFarlane) the foul-mouthed teddy bear and his best friend, likable but awkward John Bennett (Max Burkholder). Together they live in a working-class Boston home with John’s parents Matty and Susan and cousin Blaire (Giorgia Whigham). Matty (Scott Grimes) is a blustering, blue-collar Bostonian who sees himself as the unequivocal boss of the house and doesn’t like anyone challenging him, particularly his liberal-minded niece. Susan (Alanna Ubach) is kind, selfless, and almost pathologically sweet when it comes to caring for her family. Blaire is an outspoken college student who often finds herself at odds with her more traditional-minded relatives,” reads a synopsis.
Ted is produced by Universal Content Productions, Fuzzy Door and Media Rights Capital. MacFarlane serves as executive producer, writer, director and co-showrunner. Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh also serve as executive producers, writers and co-showrunners. For Fuzzy Door, Erica Huggins, Alana Kleiman, Jason Clark and Aimee Carlson are executive producers.
