The Canadian Media Producers Association (CMPA) announced last week the launch of a new Indiescreen Awards category that recognizes excellence in Canadian independent television production.
To be handed out during an event in Toronto on Sept. 4, as part of the Toronto International Film Festival, the 2025 Indiescreen Awards will now present three awards across both television and feature film production.
The new TV Producer Indiescreen Award, presented in partnership with the Canada Media Fund, celebrates the achievements of an independent Canadian television media production company and includes a $20,000 prize. This award is open exclusively to CMPA members.
The renamed Feature Film Producer Indiescreen Award, presented in partnership with Telefilm Canada, celebrates a producer’s filmmaking accomplishments over the course of their career and includes a $20,000 prize. This award is also open exclusively to CMPA members.
The Kevin Tierney Emerging Producer Indiescreen Award recognizes the impressive potential of an up-and-coming producer and includes a $10,000 prize. This award is open to both CMPA members and non-members.
“Whether on big screens or small, Canada’s independent producers consistently lead the way in creativity, innovation, and excellence across both feature film and television production,” Andrew Addison, the CMPA’s senior vice president of strategic communications and member services, said in a CMPA press release. “The introduction of our new TV Producer Indiescreen Award underscores our commitment to celebrating the best and brightest across the full spectrum of world-class content that is produced by our members.”
Indiescreen Award applications are open until Friday, July 11. Eligibility criteria and other application information is available here.
