CMPA to present Indiescreen Awards at 2024 Atlantic International Film Festival


The Canadian Media Producers Association (CMPA) announced Monday the 2024 Indiescreen Awards will be handed out at the Atlantic International Film Festival (AIFF) in Halifax this September.

Presented in partnership with Telefilm Canada, the Indiescreen Awards recognize excellence in Canadian independent feature film production.

Applications will open on Tuesday, June 4, for the Established Producer award, which includes a $20,000 prize, and the Kevin Tierney Emerging Producer award, which includes a $10,000 prize. Eligibility criteria and other application information will be available on the Indiescreen Awards webpage at 9 a.m. ET on Tuesday. The deadline to apply is Friday, July 19.

“Canadians have witnessed another phenomenal year for homegrown feature films,” Andrew Addison, vice president of communications, marketing and membership at the CMPA, said in a press release. “We are thrilled to bring the CMPA’s celebration of Canadian independent feature film production to Atlantic Canada, which has a rich history of storytelling on screen.”

“AIFF is thrilled to welcome this year’s CMPA Indiescreen Awards to Halifax,” said Martha Cooley, AIFF executive director. “The CMPA Indiescreen Awards celebrate the best and brightest producing talent and we are honoured to bring that talent to AIFF to showcase our Nova Scotian hospitality and all that our industry on the East Coast has to offer.”

AIFF will run from Sept. 11 to 18. The Indiescreen Awards will be handed out on Thursday, Sept. 12.
