Bell deploys 3.8 GHz spectrum for faster 5G+ speeds in certain areas

Bell announced Wednesday that it has deployed key 5G spectrum in certain areas that will bring faster speeds on the company’s flagship wireless product.

The telco said it has been able to deploy the 3.8 GHz spectrum it won in the 2023 auction to add capacity and increase speeds on its 5G+ product in Toronto and Kitchener-Waterloo.

Besides being able to do more on the wireless network, Bell said the 5G+ spectrum will allow for lower latency to improve use cases requiring responsive real-time communications.

“Our commitment to innovation reaches new heights today as we begin deploying 3800 MHz spectrum, which will offer customers access to the country’s fastest mobile technology yet,” Stephen Howe, Bell’s chief technology and information officer, said in the release. “It’s a significant milestone in the evolution of next-generation communications in Canada, and we are extremely proud to lead the way, delivering the latest technology and best experience to our customers.”

Bell also claims to be the first carrier on the continent to successfully test with Samsung the new 5 Component Carrier Aggregation (5CCA) on the Galaxy S24 series device.

“During the field test, download speeds of over 2Gbps were achieved, which Bell confirms are the fastest mobile speeds recorded to date in Canada in the field,” Bell said in the release.

Bell said the new test means it is expected to bring up the theoretical top speeds on the premium network to up to 4 Gbps.
