Rogers tops in overall fixed broadband experience: Opensignal

Rogers is the leading fixed broadband provider in Canada for overall experience, according to a new report from U.K.-based mobile analytics firm Opensignal.

“Rogers, which now includes Shaw customers, is recognized for the best overall experience more frequently than any other provider in our report,” Opensignal says.

When compared to other national fixed broadband providers including Bell, Telus and Starlink, Rogers secured three outright national wins for consistent quality, download speed and video experience, according to the report. In addition, it achieved 21 wins (11 outright wins and 10 joint wins) across various regional comparisons.

Bell was the national winner in the categories of upload speed and peak download speed.

Looking at the experience of fibre users in particular, Bell “stands above the competition with its fibre network,” the report says, with Bell winning all five national awards in fibre experience. Bell’s Pure Fibre Internet leads with significant margins in all three speed categories, compared to its nearest national competitors, the report says. Bell’s fibre product also garnered 13 regional awards, with eight outright wins and five joint wins.

In the fixed wireless access category, user experience on Rogers 5G Home Internet leads over Bell’s Wireless Home Internet in upload speed, according to the report. The two products tied in other experience metrics, including consistent quality, download speed and video experience.

Looking at regional comparisons, Rogers dominates in consistent quality in British Columbia and Manitoba, surpassing even fibre competitors, the report says. In Saskatchewan, Rogers ties with SaskTel’s fibre product infiNET.

Eastlink is unbeaten in consistent quality across the three regions where it is included for comparison — Alberta, Ontario and the Atlantic provinces — and recorded outright wins in Alberta and Ontario against fibre offerings, the report says.

In Quebec, Cogeco and Videotron were joint winners in the consistent quality category.

The data collection period for Opensignal’s Fixed Broadband Experience May 2024 report was from Feb. 1 to April 30, 2024.
