YouTube Canada on Monday announced Lindsay Doyle is the video-sharing platform’s new head of government affairs and public policy in Canada, effective immediately.
Doyle was previously the manager of government affairs and public policy for Google Canada, before taking a year of parental leave. YouTube and Google are both owned by Alphabet Inc.
Based in Ottawa, Doyle is taking over the role formerly held by Jeanette Patell, who is now the director of government affairs and public policy for Google Canada. Doyle was selected as Patell’s replacement after an extensive internal and external recruitment process, according to an emailed announcement from YouTube Canada.
Doyle spent six years on Google Canada’s government affairs and public policy team, where she focused on key policy issues such as combatting online harms and disinformation, AI/quantum technology, payments and financial services, and trade and taxation.
“She is passionate about tech policy and supporting the industry’s broader efforts to promote equitable user trust and safety, economic growth and fostering innovation,” YouTube Canada’s announcement says.
Doyle also worked closely with Google.org, the company’s philanthropic arm, in prioritizing key partnerships with not-for-profit and charitable organizations across Canada, the announcement adds.
She graduated from the University of Toronto’s Trinity College with a degree in international relations and political science while also working as a researcher at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy. In addition, she was a founding board member of the Canadian Advocacy Network, is on the advisory board of the Master of Public Policy in Digital Society Program at McMaster University, and is a board director at the Canadian American Business Council and at MediaSmarts.
