CBC Kids greenlights second season of Bestest Day Ever

CBC Kids announced last Friday it has greenlit a second season of the Canadian Screen Award-nominated live-action preschool series Bestest Day Ever with My Best Friend!, created and produced by Lopii Productions.

Hosted by Lisette Xavier, Bestest Day Ever celebrates pets and their young owners who share their personal stories in an unscripted format. Aimed at kids aged 3-6 and their families, season two of the series consists of 20 seven-minute episodes and is scheduled to premiere in winter 2025.

“In every episode of Bestest Day Ever, host Lisette meets up with a wonderful young pet owner and their beloved pet. We hear about their bond and what makes their relationship so special, and Lisette (occasionally with a guest) teaches our awesome owners a special way they can say thank you with a DIY toy, treat or enrichment that will make their day,” explains a press release. “After their pet gives their new treat a try, they head over to the Surprise Zone, where they are given a once-in-a-lifetime experience, customized to the pet’s personality and their favourite things to do.”

Bestest Day Ever with My Best Friend! shares the owners’ genuine love for their animals, and Lisette’s infectious energy, with families and young viewers across the country. Working with our partners at Lopii Productions, we look forward to introducing audiences to a new group of friends in Season 2,” Swin Chang, executive in charge of production and development at CBC Kids, said in the press release.

Lopii Productions is now casting kids for the new season, with production scheduled to start in April 2024 in Toronto. Applications are open for kids aged 5-12 and will be accepted until April 15.

“The ultimate goal of Bestest Day Ever with My Best Friend! is to encourage simple acts of kindness and gratitude and celebrate the incredible bond between humans and their special animals. We are so excited to film more surprises and more cuteness with our friends at the CBC,” said twin sisters Rennata and Georgina López, creators and founders of Lopii Productions, in a statement.

The first season of Bestest Day Ever with My Best Friend! is nominated for two Canadian Screen Awards, for Best Writing, Pre-School, and Best Original Music, Factual, Lifestyle, Reality, or Entertainment.
