SaskTel launches 5G on 40 more cell sites across Saskatchewan

SaskTel announced Wednesday it has recently launched 5G on more than 40 additional cell sites serving rural communities and highway corridors across Saskatchewan.

The Crown corporation says in a press release its 5G network can currently deliver data speeds of up to 1.2 Gbps and will provide significantly faster speeds as the network matures.

“Since 2021, our team has worked tirelessly to bring the incredible speed and power of 5G technology to our customers across Saskatchewan,” Charlene Gavel, SaskTel president and CEO, said in the release. “To date, we have successfully upgraded more than 400 cell sites to 5G technology and now offer 5G wireless service in over 100 communities and along large sections of major highway corridors, including much of Highway 1, 11, and 16.”

The communities and areas that have recently been upgraded to SaskTel 5G service include Abernethy, Bienfait, Borden, Bredenbury, Brock, Canora (Southwest), Churchbridge, Clavet, Duck Lake, Edgeley, Emma Lake, Englishman Lake (West), Esterhazy, Flaxcombe (South), Foam Lake, Grass Lake, Grenfell (South), Gull Lake, Halbrite, Indian Head (West), Jansen, Langenburg, Lemberg, Maple Creek, Marengo, McTaggart, Midale, Mission Lake, Monarchvale, Mortlach, Paynton, Qu’Appelle, Rosthern, Sintaluta, Tantallon, Theodore, Vanscoy, Waldeck, Wolseley and Zealandia.

The highway sections newly upgraded to SaskTel 5G include Highway 2 (north of Spruce Home), Highway 11 (north of Rosthern), Highway 16 (east of Colonsay; and east of Wynyard), Highway 31 (northwest of Primate), Highway 39 (south of Milestone), Highway 658 (south of Netherhill), Highway 675 (north of Neilburg) and Highway 702 (east of Midale).
