SaskTel announced Wednesday the successful implementation of its Smart Community Solution in the City of Melfort, as part of an ongoing collaborative project.
Originally announced in 2020, the Smart Community collaboration between SaskTel and Melfort is focused on delivering practical and innovative solutions to the community to improve the city’s operations and to optimize future community development, explains a press release.
The Smart Community Solution provides Melfort with a range of tools that will help the city to access, manage and share data more effectively across its organization, allowing it to find efficiencies, reduce operational costs and improve delivery of municipal services to residents, the release says.
“Thanks to the valuable insights and data provided by SaskTel’s Smart Community Solution, we’re better able to streamline our operations, move away from paper-based workflows, predict and control the lifecycles of essential assets, and leverage data-based decisions for municipal planning — all of which enable us to make informed investments in areas and maximize their effectiveness to the benefit of our municipality,” said Adam Homes, City of Melfort city manager, in the release.

SaskTel’s Smart Community Solution, which includes a suite of asset management and geospatial analytic applications, was designed in partnership with Kvale Informatic Consulting Ltd., a local leader in Saskatchewan’s tech sector that specializes in the collection, management and analysis of data for business operations.
