BC commits $58M to connect communities in Columbia Basin

VANCOUVER – British Columbia announced Friday it is plowing $58 million to connect 5,400 households in 59 rural and remote communities in the Columbia Basin area of the province. The allocated money, which includes two indigenous communities, will go toward the Columbia Basin Trust. The money is part of the existing $830 million that was committed in March 2022 to the province from the over-$3-billion Universal Broadband Fund. The feds say they are ahead of schedule to connect the entire nation to the federal objective speeds of 50 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload by 2030.
