SaskTel rolling out 5G in more cities

REGINA – SaskTel announced Monday it has started rolling out its 5G network in parts of the cities of Warman and Martensville, Sask., with the majority of both communities expected to have 5G coverage by the end of March 2024.

SaskTel’s 5G network currently can deliver download speeds of up to 1.2 Gbps, according to a press release. SaskTel says its network will provide “significantly faster speeds” as it matures. Future benefits of 5G will also include massive network capacity and ultra-low latency, the release adds.

“5G technology has the potential to transform the way we connect and interact with the world,” said Charlene Gavel, SaskTel’s new president and CEO, in the release. “More than just faster data speeds, 5G will further enable the deployment of new and exciting smart technologies that will help enhance the quality of life and drive economic development across Saskatchewan.”

SaskTel’s continued expansion of its 5G and fibre networks are part of the Crown corporation’s commitment to invest more than $1.6 billion of capital across the province over the next five years. The company announced in March it would invest almost $413 million in its 2023/2024 fiscal year alone.
