SaskTel board names Charlene Gavel as new president and CEO

REGINA – The board of directors of SaskTel announced Thursday that Charlene Gavel will be the Crown corporation’s next president and CEO.

Gavel will replace Doug Burnett, who announced his retirement in February.

Gavel has been the chief financial officer for the past nine years of the Crown corporation. Previously, she was CFO of SaskTel International subsidiary, which provides digital development and professional services.

“The SaskTel Board is confident she has the in-depth industry, financial, and business knowledge to take on the leadership role,” a SaskTel press release said. “Ms. Gavel is well respected within the company and with her extensive experience in developing effective and innovative strategic plans is well positioned to lead the company in a highly competitive communications industry.”

Gavel had previously held positions as chief financial officer with the Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region, as well as chief financial officer and vice president of finance and administration at Information Services Corporation.

Gavel has a Bachelor of Administration degree from the University of Regina and is a Chartered Professional Accountant.
