Northwestel lowering prices on high-tier internet plans

Northwest Territories and Yukon – Bell subsidiary Northwestel announced Thursday price drops for its higher internet plans in most of its fibre communities by March 1.

The company is shaving $20 and $10 per month off of its 500 Mbps and 300 Mbps download speed plans, respectively, which will be reflected on customers’ bills automatically, it said in a press release. The plans before the discounts cost roughly $240 and $220 per month, respectively, according to its website.

The latest cuts are a continuation of price reductions the company has been making over the years.

“We’re finding ways to save northerners money and bring them more value, all while delivering the fastest speeds in the north,” Tammy April, vice president of customer experience, said in the release. “We look forward to bringing faster speeds at these lower rates to even more communities in 2023.”

Northwestel also said Thursday it is introducing a new internet 15 plan for $57.95 per month.

The company said these developments are part of its plan to bring 500 Mbps speeds to 90 percent of homes in land-served Yukon and Northwest Territories by the end of the year, with plans to bring fibre to 18 more northern communities this year.
