REGINA – SaskTel said today that it has partnered with South Saskatchewan Ready to bring high-speed internet to the communities of Bengough, Coronach, Rockglen, and Willow Bunch.
SSR, an economic partnership between nine rural communities, will participate through the Community Participation Program, which involves those communities providing a portion of funds to cover the costs of delivering SaskTel’s infiNET internet service of up to a gigabit of download speed.
The partnership program is said to shorten the timeframe to build out the infrastructure.
“Coal Transition has many economic challenges, especially in rural regions where economies are largely undiversified,” Sharon Adam, chair of the SSR, said in a press release. “SaskTel’s fibre optic broadband network will provide our regional population centres with opportunities to compete with larger centres for economic opportunities.”
More than 30 communities have participated in SaskTel’s CPP to improve communications services in their regions since 2013, the release said.
