CBC NEWS ANNOUNCED today Steven D’Souza (above) is a new co-host of its investigative documentary program The Fifth Estate, joining Bob McKeown, Gillian Findlay and Mark Kelley for the show’s 48th season, which will premiere Thursday, Sept. 29 at 9 p.m. (9:30 NT) on CBC and CBC Gem.
D’Souza, an accomplished reporter and foreign correspondent, has been with the CBC News since 2000 – his most recent role was as co-host of the public broadcaster’s consumer investigative program Marketplace.
He is “well known to CBC audiences for his impressive range of work including live reporting from the U.S. protests around the death of George Floyd, coverage of two presidential elections, and investigative work that stretches back to his time as a local reporter in Toronto,” a press release says.
“Steven’s mix of experience, enthusiasm for his stories, critical thinking and strong belief in the importance of investigative journalism at CBC makes him a perfect fit for The Fifth Estate,” said Diana Swain, executive producer of The Fifth Estate, in the press release.
“I’ve always challenged myself to tell stories with accuracy, fairness and nuance,” said D’Souza. “I can think of no better place to continue that challenge and take my work to the next level than at the pinnacle of CBC journalism. The Fifth Estate has set the benchmark for investigative journalism in Canada and I look forward to adding to that legacy.”
