OTTAWA – After discussing Bill C-11 until almost midnight on Wednesday, the House of Commons proceeded to vote on the second reading of that legislation after question period. At four o’clock, all the votes had been tallied and the government won a majority, with the Liberals obtaining the help of the NDP and the Bloc Québécois.
The Heritage Committee usually meets on Mondays and Wednesdays, so they will take it from there. The Committee is composed of five Liberals, four Conservatives, one Bloc Québécois and one NDP. The chair of the Committee, a Liberal, only votes to break a tie. So, the Liberals need the support of at least another member to carry any votes.
