Discovery announces Adam Beach as host of new original series A Cut Above

TORONTO — Bell Media’s Discovery announced yesterday Golden Globe-nominated actor Adam Beach (above, centre) is confirmed to host the channel’s new Canadian original woodcarving competition series, A Cut Above.

Set to premiere later this year on Discovery, the series set over 12, 60 minute episodes is shooting this spring in Squamish, B.C.

Also confirmed yesterday in a press release, world-renowned Canadian chainsaw wood carver Ryan Cook (right) and UK sculptor Katharine Dowson (left) will serve as judges on the series.

“A competition like no other, A Cut Above puts 12 of the best chainsaw carvers from across the world to the ultimate test of creativity, strength, and skills, as they turn ordinary logs into extraordinary works of art,” reads the press release.

“Each episode, the carvers compete in weekly Quick and Master Carve challenges, while racing against the clock, in hopes of avoiding elimination. At the end of the grueling competition, the carver who out carves the rest, wins a cash prize and will be named ‘A Cut Above’.”

A Cut Above was created and produced by Toronto-based entertainment company marblemedia, in association with Bell Media for Discovery.

For marblemedia, Matt Hornburg, Mark Bishop and Diane Rankin are executive producers, Donna Luke and Carly Spencer are co-executive producers, and Grant Greschuk is series producer. The series was created by marblemedia’s development producer Kelsey Espensen.

For Bell Media, Tina Apostolopoulos is senior production executive, Sarah Fowlie is head of production, original programming, Carlyn Klebuc is general manager, original programming, and Pat DiVittorio is vice-president of CTV and specialty programming.
