SAN BRUNO, Calif. — YouTube announced last week connected TV users in the U.S. can now stream select movies and full seasons of TV shows on YouTube for free with ads.
The library of content currently available to U.S. viewers on YouTube’s new ad-supported video on demand (AVOD) platform includes almost 4,000 episodes of TV shows, including Hell’s Kitchen, Andromeda and Heartland, and more than 1,500 movies from Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution, Warner Bros., Paramount Pictures, Lionsgate and FilmRise, according to a YouTube blog post.
Some of the new movie titles in March available to stream for free with ads include Gone in Sixty Seconds, Runaway Bride and Legally Blonde.
Cartt.ca reached out to YouTube Canada to ask if the new AVOD platform is coming to Canada.
“This will be available to more regions later this year,” wrote a YouTube Canada spokesperson in an email, noting there are no specifics yet to share.
U.S. users can access free movies and shows here, with up to 100 new titles added each week, on web browsers, mobile devices and most connected TVs via the YouTube on TV app.
