IIC Canadian Chapter announces preliminary program for annual conference


OTTAWA – The International Institute of Communications (IIC) Canadian Chapter has released a preliminary program for its annual conference, being held as a hybrid event this year with the in-person part taking place at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa on May 16 and 17.

According to an email announcing registration for the event is open, the conference will feature discussions on a variety of topics including:

  • Competition law and platform regulation
  • Bill C-11 (the Online Streaming Act)
  • Rural broadband in Canada and the optimal mix of technologies
  • Developments in Indigenous media
  • Compensation for news media
  • Broadband mapping
  • The importance of diversity at the CBC and in the industry more generally

The event’s website specifies two keynote interviews have been announced – one will feature CRTC chair Ian Scott in conversation with National Post parliamentary reporter Anja Karadeglija and the other will feature Nathan Simington, a commissioner at the Federal Communications Commission in conversation with Globe and Mail business reporter Alexandra Posadzki.

Two keynotes have also been announced – one by Pierre Karl Péladeau, president and CEO of Quebecor and the other by Robert Ghiz, president and CEO of the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association.
