
MONTREAL — The latest ad campaign for Videotron’s discount wireless brand Fizz used green-screen technology in a transit shelter to let Montreal commuters star in their own Fizz ads, Quebecor’s collaborative marketing agency Qolab announced today.
The campaign ran from Sept. 28 to Nov. 8 using one of Quebecor Expertise Media’s downtown Montreal bus shelters that was decked out in the Fizz brand’s distinctive shade of green.
“Green screens are often used to create special effects or various backdrops in movie or TV productions — and the possibilities are endless! Because flexibility is a core value for Fizz, passers-by could use this special transit shelter as a blank slate to create their personalized ad, in the same way Fizz lets them create their own personalized mobile and Internet plans,” explains a press release.
“The process was simple: passers-by could choose a screen background and pose for a picture using the transit shelter camera. In just a few minutes, their picture appeared on the exterior face of the transit shelter, making each participant the star of their own ad.”
The special transit shelter also offered content creators a chance to create custom videos using the shelter as their personal studio, the release says.
“And taking it one step further, the Fizz green screen even served as a weather report backdrop on the morning TV show Salut Bonjour, spicing up the segment with amusing images.”
“The green-screen transit was the central idea that connected all the main touchpoints of our awareness campaign,” explains Jocelyn Goyer, creative director at Qolab, in the press release. “The campaign delivered a truly entertaining experience right to our target audience. Then, we built even more awareness by partnering with content creators who were perfectly aligned with Fizz values, offering them total freedom to create content that spoke to their respective communities.”
