Bell Media to air tribute to anchor Steve Murphy

HALIFAX – Bell Media’s CTV announced yesterday it will air a special broadcast celebrating CTV News Atlantic’s chief anchor Steve Murphy Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. AT on CTV Atlantic, CTVNews.ca and on the CTV News app.

The special, Live & Local: A Tribute to Steve Murphy, will air immediately following Murphy’s last CTV News at Six newscast. It was announced in September he would be stepping aside from his role on the station’s flagship news program.

“News leadership and commitment to community are hallmarks of Murphy’s 45-year broadcasting legacy,” reads a press release announcing the special.

“He will continue to make contributions to the station, with special interviews, analysis, commentary, and feature storytelling, along with devoting time to charitable organizations across the region.”

The special broadcast will feature highlights from Murphy’s career and reflections from his colleague and charities he has supported along with messages from viewers.

“Steve Murphy has been a constant in the lives of so many Maritimers,” said Trent McGrath, general manager, CTV Atlantic, in the press release. “For decades, we‘ve turned to him to make sense of the news of the day, and in celebrating his final broadcast as Chief Anchor, it’s our turn to show Steve what an impact he’s had on us all,” he said.

“This special broadcast gives viewers an intimate and nostalgic look at Steve’s unparalleled career,” said Dan Appleby, news director, CTV News Atlantic. “The program is a celebration of his life’s work and the significant impact he has made on the Maritimes.”
