Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling returns to Sportsnet


OAKVILLE – Sportsnet announced today its Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling will return next week with the Masters, the first of five grand slam events being held this season.

Live coverage of the event, being held at the Sixteen Mile Sports Complex in Oakville from Oct. 19-24, will being Oct. 21 at 11 a.m. ET/8 a.m. PT on Sportsnet and SN Now.

Sportsnet’s expert curling commentators, including veteran play-by-play announcer Rob Faulds, will provide insight and analysis live from Oakville.

Faulds will be joined “by celebrated Canadian Olympic medallists and curling analysts, Kevin Martin, Mike Harris, and Joan McCusker,” according to a press release.

“Current Team Jones skip and 2014 Olympic gold medallist Jennifer Jones will also be joining the booth for select broadcasts, bringing unparalleled present-day experience to Sportsnet’s coverage,” the release says.

Sportsnet has owned and operated Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling, an elite series of curling events, since 2012. The event awards equal prize purses to the best men’s and women’s teams, with a total of $2.1 million in prize money given out over a full season, according to the press release.

This year’s Masters in Oakville features “16 top men’s and 16 elite women’s teams from around the globe competing in the unique triple knockout format,” the release says.

Teams will compete “for a combined $300,000 prize purse and a berth into the KIOTI Champions Cup, the final Grand Slam event of the season.”
