CBC offering free environmental sustainability workshops for producers

TORONTO — CBC announced today the next edition of its ongoing One Stop Business Workshop virtual series, organized in partnership with the Canadian Audio-Visual Certification Office (CAVCO) and the Canadian Media Producers Association (CMPA), is designed to help independent producers learn more about sustainable production.

“In advance of the UN Climate Change Conference COP26 and coinciding with National Waste Reduction Week, the newest edition of the virtual information session series, running October 19-21, is titled Green Week and will focus on easily implemented sustainable practices to reduce the carbon footprint of productions,” reads a CBC press release.

The Green Week workshop will consist of three 60- to 90-minute virtual sessions, one per day beginning at 2 p.m. ET.

“The daily sessions will consist of moderated panel discussions about: the importance of sustainability and decoding ‘green’ terminology being used in the industry; the use of carbon footprint calculators; and easily implemented changes that can make immediate and positive environmental impacts on productions,” the release says.

Panellists and moderators will include representatives from CBC, CMPA, Creative BC, Earth Angel, Green Spark Group, Mercury Films, Ontario Creates/Ontario Green Screen, Shaftesbury, Sinking Ship Entertainment and William F. White International Inc.

The sessions will be accessible and will also be recorded (with closed captioning and ASL) and made available for registrants unable to attend live, the release says.

“Committing to sustainable practices in film production is more important now than ever,” said Lisa Clarkson, executive director of business and rights and content optimization at CBC, in the release.

“Through these latest sessions in our series with CAVCO and CMPA, we’re trying to make it easy for everyone involved with film, TV and digital production to make their work and our industry more environmentally sustainable.”

Registration for these free sessions is now open here.
