Documentary on Léa Clermont-Dion’s quest for justice streaming on Noovo.ca

MONTREAL — Bell Media announced today the documentary series T’as juste à porter plainte (You Just Have to File a Complaint), which chronicles author and feminist Léa Clermont-Dion’s own quest for justice and that of other victims of sexual assault, is now available on Noovo.ca.

To make the documentary, Clermont-Dion (above) teamed up with producer Julie Snyder and co-directed this three-part series with Gianluca Della Montagna.

“After speaking in the wake of the #metoo denunciations movement in 2017, the documentary filmmaker lifts the veil on the pitfalls and challenges that arise in front of those who choose justice to denounce a sexual crime,” reads an English translation of Bell Media’s press release.

In the series, about 10 women give touching testimonies, including young Erika Vincent, whose disturbing story circulated on social networks during the summer of 2020. Snyder and alleged sexual assault victim Annick Charette also lend their voices to the documentary.

Experts featured in the series include La Presse journalist Yves Boisvert, Clinique Juripop president Sophie Gagnon, Quebec justice minister Simon Jolin-Barrette, retired Quebec criminal court judge Céline Lacerte-Lamontagne, as well as representatives of CAVAC (Centre d’Aide aux Victimes d’Actes Criminels) and the Directeur des poursuites criminelles et pénales.

For Clermont-Dion, whose attacker was convicted in Quebec Superior Court last June, this documentary is a real deliverance.

“Today I decided to speak. I’m not ashamed of anything anymore. I feel completely liberated and I want this documentary to allow others to free themselves,” she says, in the English translation.

“Léa is a great feminist, a model for me and I would even say a friend and an accomplice. I can’t wait for you to discover her journey. Thanks to her, women learn to win,” says Snyder.
