CALGARY — CTV News Calgary announced yesterday Kevin Stanfield (above) will be the new weather anchor for the station’s weekday newscasts, following the retirement of long-time broadcaster and meteorologist David Spence this fall.
Stanfield has worked for CTV News Calgary for the past five years and will now lead weather coverage for the weekday editions of CTV News at Five, CTV News at Six and CTV News at 11:30 as the station’s chief meteorologist, starting in the coming weeks.
“While I’ll miss waking up with Calgarians and the amazing team at CTV Morning Live, I can’t wait to join our evening newscast crew,” said Stanfield, in a press release.
“It’s a great honour to step into the role held by David Spence, and I will work tirelessly to make sure Calgary and Southern Alberta viewers can continue to count on CTV News for the most accurate forecast in the province.”
Spence retires this fall after more than 40 years on the air with CTV News Calgary.
“Kevin is a skilled meteorologist and a talented broadcaster who has earned the trust of viewers across the region,” said Spence.
“My decision to leave a job that has been such a big part of my life for the past four decades is easier knowing our viewers will be in good hands with Kevin.”
Stanfield started his career as a news reporter in Smithers B.C., and worked as a traffic reporter in Toronto before becoming a weather anchor. He holds a meteorology degree from Mississippi State University.
