WINNIPEG — APTN’s annual Indigenous Day Live (IDL) special will air Sunday, June 20 to celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day with a lineup of Canadian performers.
APTN Indigenous Day Live 2021 will pair Indigenous artists with Canadian music icons for a multiplatform broadcast featuring collaborations in English, French and Indigenous languages. Performers appearing in Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto, Montreal and Dartmouth will help to showcase and celebrate First Nations, Inuit and Métis cultures and milestones, says APTN’s press release.
The show will be hosted by Earl Wood and Janelle Wookey, and will feature performances by Snotty Nose Rez Kids, Tom Wilson, iskwē, Neon Dreams, Julian Taylor, Charlotte Cardin and more. A full list of performers is available at indigenousdaylive.ca.
This year’s IDL celebration coincides with the 25th National Indigenous Peoples Day (NIPD) and the delayed celebrations of Manitoba’s 150th anniversary, which were postponed last year due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Tribute segments for both anniversaries will be woven throughout Indigenous Day Live 2021, portraying the history of Indigenous people and their contributions to Canada.
“We are so thrilled to have IDL return this year,” says APTN CEO Monika Ille, in the press release. “After postponing IDL 2020, and later broadcasting our first-ever IDL Winter Solstice, it feels wonderful to return to our roots in celebration of NIPD. We can’t wait to connect with our audience across Canada as we continue to share our stories, cultures and music.”
APTN Indigenous Day Live 2021 will air June 20 from 8 p.m. to 11:30 P.M. ET on the linear APTN channel, the APTN lumi streaming service and participating Indigenous radio stations. A repeat broadcast will air on APTN on June 21 from 2:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. ET/CT/MT.
IDL 2021 will be available for free on APTN lumi from June 20 at 8 p.m. ET until June 22 at 8 p.m. ET. The broadcast will then be available to stream with an APTN lumi subscription.
