Standard Broadband getting $1.6 million in UBF money to connect 324 Halton homes


HALTON REGION — Funded through the federal government’s Universal Broadband Fund rapid response stream, a new project to bring high-speed Internet to 324 underserved homes in Ontario’s Halton region was announced today.

The ISP undertaking the project, Acton, Ont.-based Standard Broadband, is receiving $1.6 million in federal funding to deliver high-speed broadband service to rural residents of Haltonville and Moffat. Standard Broadband’s contribution and a total value for the project were not announced in the government’s press release.

“We are all very excited here at Standard Broadband to expand our fibre to the home network to over 300 rural households and businesses in Nassagaweya… With the support from the Universal Broadband Fund, we are able to build a network that will not only meet today’s demands but also continue to be scalable as bandwidth requirements grow in the future,” said Tom Williams, president and CEO of Internet Access Solutions Ltd., which operates under the name Standard Broadband.
