Cogeco recognizes indispensable LTC home staffers with free lunches purchased at local eateries

BURLINGTON, Ont. — In recognition of the important work being done by staff at long-term care (LTC) homes during the ongoing pandemic, Cogeco has launched a new initiative to deliver free lunches to employees at more than 40 LTC homes across Ontario, the company announced today.

Cogeco is purchasing the meals from local restaurants to help support small business owners at the same time.

Nurses, personal support workers, housekeeping and administration staff at the homes are receiving individually packaged lunches delivered to their facilities by Cogeco employees who adhere to all Covid-19 protocols such as social distancing and wearing masks, says the company’s press release. Lunches are provided in large boxes and are exchanged outside the homes to ensure the safety of everyone who works or lives in each location, says the release.

“We have all heard the stories about outbreaks in some of these facilities and yet, these heroes continue to go to work, caring for some of our most vulnerable community members. We wanted to show them how much they are appreciated. Our team has really been touched by the reactions they have received both from the restaurant owners but most importantly, from the (LTC home) staff. We are so happy with the outcome of this program,” said Matt Wickham, Cogeco Connexion’s vice-president and general manager for Ontario, in the release.
