TORONTO and CUPERTINO, Calif. — Apple Music announced today Canadian singer-songwriter and dancer Tate McRae is the latest addition to its Up Next program, Apple Music’s monthly artist initiative to identify, showcase and elevate rising talent.
In her Up Next film, released today (a trailer can be seen on YouTube here), McRae recalls her childhood focused on competitive dancing and her driving ambition to constantly create, says Apple’s press release. At the age of 13, in 2016, she was a finalist on the 13th season of Fox TV’s So You Think You Can Dance, placing third. After her appearance on the show, McRae created her own video series, Create With Tate. Her song “One Day” went viral on YouTube in 2017 when she was 14, and caught the attention of music labels. In early 2020, McRae embarked on a sold-out tour before it was shut down by the pandemic, says the release. During isolation, she released her biggest single yet, the ballad “You Broke Me First”.
“Across Apple Music, McRae has been playlisted across Today’s Hits, A-List Pop and In My Room with her emotionally honest songs and has amassed over 225 million streams across Apple Music worldwide to date,” reads the Apple press release.
McRae’s songs are available now on the Apple Music Up Next Playlist here. Subscribers to Apple Music can watch her film here. Her interview with Apple Music 1 host Travis Mills is available on YouTube here.
