REGINA — Access Communications Co-operative today announced students can now apply for the Access Communications Doug Alexander Scholarship Program, which awards up to 20 scholarships of $1,000 each to high school graduates in Saskatchewan communities served by the company.
Established in 2005, the Access Communications annual scholarship program has awarded more than $360,000 to more than 1,300 students since its inception. The program was renamed in 2020 in honour of the late Doug Alexander, community relations manager at Access Communications, in recognition of his lifelong commitment to community improvement.
“Our scholarship program recognizes students who actively make their communities better places to live,” said Fran Moran, communications manager at Access, in a press release. “Many of last year’s recipients began their post-secondary education virtually, adding uncertainty to an already stressful time. By lessening their financial burden, our program supports these future leaders and their pursuit of higher education.”
The application deadline for this year’s scholarships is Friday, April 16, 2021. An awards committee will select the recipients by considering criteria including contribution to the community, academic achievement, extracurricular school activity and more.
