TORONTO — RiverTV, VMedia’s live and on-demand streaming TV service which launched in June, today revealed the results of its first national customer satisfaction survey which shows Canadian cord cutters still like to watch live television.
Almost 90% of the 1,400 RiverTV subscribers who completed the online survey were cord cutters, and more than 60% of total survey respondents said their number one favourite thing about the RiverTV service is the ability to watch live television, according to VMedia’s press release announcing the survey results.
In addition to live television, RiverTV’s app-based streaming platform offers thousands of hours of on-demand content and the time-shifting features Canadians have come to expect, says VMedia.
“These amazing results were not a surprise to us,” said Alexei Tchernobrivets, CEO of RiverTV, in the press release. “Data has shown that cord cutters, when offered the opportunity to enjoy live TV with the affordability and accessibility of other streaming services, have a strong appetite for the great live TV experience RiverTV delivers.”
In terms of overall customer satisfaction, more than 80% of survey respondents rated RiverTV 4 or 5 out of 5, and 95% of respondents said they would recommend the service to their friends and families, says VMedia.
The company says the survey also showed RiverTV is reaching its target market across Canada, with more than 70% of households including females, nearly 60% being couples, and 50% being homes with kids. Half of respondents were in the key 18-44 age group, says VMedia.
The RiverTV service offering includes more than 30 live and on-demand channels for $16.99 per month. Add-on theme packs and a-la-carte channels now include Hollywood Suite ($3.99 per month), Super Channel ($9.99/mo), Nick+ ($5.99/mo), i24 News ($6.99/mo) and Duck TV ($1.99/mo).
RiverTV can be accessed on popular devices such as Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, iPads and iPhones, Roku players and TVs, and certified Android devices such as Sony TVs and NVidia Shield. RiverTV recently added a web version, www.rivertv.ca/tv, so that favourite shows can be viewed on all major browsers on laptops, PCs and mobile devices.
“We have for years been urging channel providers and regulators to make live TV more accessible in this way to Canadians and let them watch live TV the same way they enjoy all popular streaming services,” said George Burger, co-founder of VMedia and chief operating officer of RiverTV, in the press release. While some Canadian broadcasters have chosen not to make their channels available to RiverTV (such as Bell Media and Rogers Media), “with the success of our launch, and the overwhelmingly positive response of our subscribers, we feel vindicated, and will redouble our efforts to make all channels available to Canadians in this way,” added Burger.
