Telus expands 5G to more towns, sets up school partnerships

VANCOUVER – Several more cities and towns in British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario now have access to Telus’ 5G network, the company announced today.

In B.C., Telus has expanded its 5G network to Victoria, Port Moody, Maple Ridge, New Westminster and Pitt Meadows. The Alberta communities of Fort Saskatchewan, Spruce Grove, St. Albert, and Sherwood Park and neighbouring areas in Strathcona County now have access to Telus’ 5G network. And in Ontario, Telus has extended its 5G service to the city of Windsor and neighbouring Tecumseh and LaSalle.

Telus also announced partnerships with the University of Windsor and St. Clair College, also in Windsor, which will see Telus transform each into a 5G-connected campus. Fully funded by Telus, each institution will receive a Telus-designed 5G-enabled wireless network, which Telus will operate at no cost to the institutions. Telus will also collaborate on research projects to further understanding and use cases of 5G technologies, says the press release.

Telus’ 5G network has already been rolled out in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto and Montreal, and the company says it will be available in 50 communities by the end of the year. Some of the announced locations to receive Telus 5G coverage by the end of 2020 include: Port Coquitlam, Coquitlam, Burnaby, Surrey, White Rock and Chilliwack in B.C.; Stony Plain, Parkland County, Leduc, Greenview, Smoky River, Fairview and Wabasca in Alberta; and Kitchener, Waterloo, Mississauga, Oakville, Markham, Richmond Hill, Kingston and Cornwall in Ontario.
