TORONTO — Across the country, as the United Nations marks International Youth Day 2020, Rogers Communications is celebrating the Ted Rogers Scholarship Class of 2020 with the announcement today more than 400 students will start their post-secondary studies with the scholarship program this fall.
Rogers announced scholarships were being awarded to students across the country, including in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec and the Atlantic provinces.
Building on the legacy of Rogers founder Ted Rogers, these scholarships help aspiring young leaders overcome barriers to accessing post-secondary education. Ted Rogers Scholarships provide $2,500 renewable scholarships for up to four years or $10,000 to recognize young leaders across Canada who are giving back to their communities in a meaningful way.
Students were nominated by Rogers’ 17 national partnership organizations, including Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boys and Girls Clubs Canada, YMCA Canada, Right to Play, Indspire, Pflag Canada, as well as Intégration jeunesse Quebec and Gris Montréal in Quebec.
Entrance scholarships of $2,500 are also provided to Rogers employees or their children. Collectively, this year’s class represents 10 provinces, 82 cities or towns, with 75% of community recipients as members of BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and people of colour) communities, says the news release.
“Our founder, Ted Rogers, believed deeply that one of the best ways to strengthen Canada was to create opportunities to empower young people. To this day, it remains true that few things have the power to change the trajectory of one’s life like education,” said Joe Natale, president and CEO of Rogers Communications, in the news release. “I am inspired by the optimism and value of community service inherent in this year’s Class of 2020 Ted Rogers Scholarship recipients. We at Rogers are honoured to play a small role in helping this group of rising Canadian leaders fulfill their post-secondary goals, and can’t wait to see how they leave their mark as they shape our collective future.”
Now in its fourth year, Ted Rogers Scholarships has awarded $6.5 million in scholarships to recognize the achievements of 1,400 Canadian students since 2017.
