TORONTO — With its manufacturing and brand licensing agreement with BlackBerry coming to an end, Chinese smartphone manufacturer TCL Communication is officially entering the Canadian market with its own TCL Mobile brand of devices in partnership with Bell, Koodo, Telus and Virgin Mobile, the manufacturer announced Tuesday.
Available July 10, the TCL 10 Pro (pictured) and TCL 10L Android smartphones provide high-resolution displays, next-generation visual technology, quad rear-camera setup and other flagship-style features at an attractive price point, says the news release.
“Following the successful global launch of the TCL 10-Series of smartphones, we are pleased to have the opportunity to work together with long-time partners Bell, Koodo, Telus, and Virgin Mobile to make the TCL 10 Pro and 10L widely accessible to consumers in Canada,” said Eric Anderson, senior vice-president and general manager of TCL Communication, North America, in the release. “As one of the world’s largest vertically-integrated consumer electronics brands, TCL can leverage our long history of mobile device and display manufacturing to provide a fantastic and affordable product experience without sacrificing features or quality.”
The new TCL smartphones leverage the company’s television manufacturing experience, utilizing touch panels built by TCL, and TCL NXTVISION, a proprietary advanced display and camera visual technology that brings images to life with truer colour, clarity and contrast enhancements in real-time, says the release. Both devices also come with a real-time SDR to HDR video conversion feature, providing enhancements in highlights, shadows, contrast and colour.
The TCL 10 Pro features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 processor, a 6.47-inch (16.4 cm) FHD+ curved AMOLED display, an on-display fingerprint reader under the screen for rapid unlocking of the phone, a 24MP front-facing camera, and an array of four rear cameras, featuring a 64MP high-res camera, 2.9μm big pixel low-light video cam, 123-degree super wide-angle camera and macro lens, as well as a hybrid auto focus solution.
The TCL 10L is built with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 processor, a 6.53-inch (16.6 cm) FHD+ Dotch display, a 16MP front-facing camera, and four rear cameras (48MP high-res main camera).
The TCL 10 Pro comes in Ember Gray, while the TCL 10L comes in Mariana Blue. Both smartphone models will be available at Bell, Koodo, Telus and Virgin Mobile starting July 10. Pricing will vary by carrier.
