TORONTO – One hundred Canadian emerging and established Indigenous, francophone and women creators and producers will participate in the third edition of the Netflix-Banff Diversity of Voices Initiative, the Banff World Media Festival announced Friday.
The initiative is also done in partnership with the Canada Media Fund (CMF), the Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (SODEC), and Canada’s Indigenous Screen Office.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2020 edition of the Festival has been cancelled, however the program partners have made sure the Diversity of Voices Initiative will still be offered in a revised format and will be delivered in concert with the Banff Virtual Edition rolling out from May to September 2020.
Each year, Diversity of Voices offers dedicated training and networking opportunities to up to 100 creators and producers from across Canada. Programming will be ongoing over the coming year and will include exclusive virtual professional development offerings and premium access to the Banff Virtual Edition, culminating with participants attending the 2021 Banff World Media Festival.
Additionally, 25 will take part in the Diversity of Voices Pitch Program, where they will receive individual mentorship from media leaders as well as the opportunity to participate in private networking or pitching opportunities with development executives and buyers, reads the press release.
