SAN FRANCISCO – Samsung revealed its Galaxy S20 5G series of smartphones on Tuesday, saying the 5G devices will be available in Canada on March 6.
Before Samsung Canada issued its news release Tuesday night, Rogers and Bell had already issued their own releases saying they were taking pre-orders starting immediately. Samsung is also taking pre-orders directly from customers on its website here. The new smartphone is also now available for pre-ordering on the Telus website, too.
The Samsung Galaxy S20 5G series are the first 5G-enabled smartphones to come to market in Canada. Samsung’s lineup of 5G devices includes the Galaxy S20 5G, the Galaxy S20+ 5G and the Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G. Samsung has priced the Galaxy S20 5G at $1,320. The Galaxy S20+ 5G models range from $1,580 to $1,780. The Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G models are priced from $1,850 to $2,110.
One of the 5G smartphones’ features highlighted by Samsung in its news release is a brand-new camera architecture that combines AI with Samsung’s largest image sensor yet.

The new camera architecture’s capabilities include:
- Details in stunning clarity: With a larger image sensor available on the Galaxy S20 5G series, camera resolution is significantly increased, for more detailed images with added flexibility for editing, cropping and zooming. Galaxy S20 5G and Galaxy S20+ 5G have a 64MP camera. Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G has a 108MP camera. Another benefit is that the large sensors take in more light, allowing for rich image quality even in low-light situations. The Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G takes things a step further with the option to shift dynamically between a high-resolution 108MP mode and a 12MP mode, thanks to a “nona-binning” technology that combines nine pixels into one at the sensor level.
- Ground-breaking zoom capability: With Space Zoom technology on the Galaxy S20 5G series that uses a combination of Hybrid Optic Zoom and Super Resolution Zoom, which includes AI-powered digital zoom, users can zoom in close even when they’re far away. Use up to 30X zoom on the Galaxy S20 5G and Galaxy S20+ 5G, or step up to the revolutionary folded lenses on the Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G, which uses AI-powered, multi-image processing to reduce quality loss at high zoom levels so that users can experience Super Resolution Zoom up to 100X with a clearer view than ever before.
- Pro-grade filming capability: The Galaxy S20 5G series offers stunning 8K video shooting, so users can capture their world in true-to-life colour and quality. Even the bumpiest videos look like they were shot using an action camera, thanks to Super Steady technology and its anti-rolling stabilization and AI motion analysis.
