OTTAWA — Responding to a procedural request for information from the Friends of Canadian Broadcasting, the CRTC is now asking CBC/Radio-Canada to submit its total aggregate revenues for all of its online services, as part of the proceeding related to the public broadcaster’s licence renewal.

In a letter sent to the Friends of Canadian Broadcasting on January 28, the Commission notes it has sent CBC/Radio-Canada a letter requesting the information about aggregate revenues (subscriber and advertising) asked for by FCB for all CBC/Radio-Canada owned and operated audio and audiovisual online services. CBC/Radio-Canada has until February 4, 2020 to provide the information.

“The Commission is of the view that releasing total aggregate revenues (subscriber and advertising) for all CBC/SRC owned and operated audio and audio-visual online services is in the public interest in that it will help interveners have a more complete financial portrait of expenses and revenues, while limiting the potential for direct harm to the CBC/SRC,” the Commission writes in its letter to FCB.

CBC/Radio-Canada’s current radio and television licences will expire on August 31, 2020. As part of its review, the CRTC will hold a public hearing beginning on May 25, 2020.

Last week, the Commission extended the deadline for public input into CBC/Radio-Canada’s licence renewal, now giving Canadians until February 20, 2020 to submit their comments. CBC/Radio-Canada has until March 6, 2020 to submit its replies.
