CMF invests $639,000 in European co-productions

TORONTO — The Canada Media Fund (CMF), in partnership with three international funding organizations, will collectively invest more than $1.1 million in eight projects codeveloped and coproduced between Canadian producers and several in Germany, Luxembourg and Northern Ireland.

The three international funding organizations — Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg (MBB), Film Fund Luxembourg (FFL) and Northern Ireland On Screen (NIS) — will approximately match the CMF’s total investments of $639,000 in co-development and coproduction projects, says the news release.

Through the Canada-Germany Digital Media Incentive program, CMF and MBB are investing $390,000 in the co-development of two digital media projects. The two organizations started their partnership in 2017-2018 and have since invested a little under $1.2 million in nine projects, including this round of funding.

This is the second year that CMF has partnered with FFL to fund co-development and coproduction projects between Canadian and Luxembourger producers. The two organizations will invest $589,000 in two digital media projects, one at the development stage and the other in production.

CMF and NIS have since 2018-2019 invested $400,000 in the co-development of eight television projects. Through this round of funding, the two organizations will invest an additional $157,000 in four projects.

The eight Canadian producers awarded funding during this round include Game Pill Inc., Tortuga Films Inc., Zazie Films Inc., Jam3 Inc., Plausible Communications Corp., Uppercut Creative Inc., Productions Sardine Inc., and Orange Iceberg Inc.
